Community Service by Dr. Shaked and Her Students

One main goal of my teacing is to help educate and excite the greater community about science. By involving my students in this goal, they learn better by teaching others, while helping education spread outside the university walls.

Part of the Real World Application (RWA) projects ask students to teach their topic to at least 10 others. Many of the RWA audience members are other students, some of whom have never taken physics before, and many of whom comment on how approachable physics seems in this context.

RWAs have also been presented to family members, previous high school classes, elementary schools, retirement homes, and outreach events. My students have helped expose about 1500 community members to real world physics so far (Summer 2014: 200 people; Fall 2014: 900 people; Winter 2015: 200 people; Spring 2015: 200 people).
